Full Professor

Prof Dr J. Broerse (FALW, Athena Institute) is full professor of innovation and communication in the Health and Life Sciences. She is director of the Athena Institute, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She holds a master in Biomedical Sciences (cum laude). In 1998 she obtained her PhD degree on the development of an interactive approach to include users in research agenda setting processes on agricultural biotechnology. Her current research is focused on methodology development for and implementation of multi-stakeholder innovation processes, reflexive monitoring & evaluation of interventions, and system innovations, in order to contribute to a better embedding of new interventions in society (globally). Her research projects are in various sectors: agriculture, food, health and energy. Currently, she is program coordinator of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Degree Program on Transdisciplinary Solutions to Global Health Challenges. Furthermore, she is a board member of the Dutch national research school in Science, Technology and Modern Culture (WTMC), and a member of the Advisory Board of the Dutch Medicines Evaluation Board. She coordinates and lectures various courses on policy and social systems, is educational director of the research master Global Health and is chair/ member of the educational boards on master Management, Policy Analysis and entrepreneurship in the health and life sciences (MPA) and bachelor/master Biomedical Sciences.
